Perfect Timing
Read John 7:1 through 11:53
In the center ring was a massive steel cage, a perfect sphere. The ringmaster cried for the attention of the crowd, and introduced the riders of six motorcycles that moved across the floor and into the belly of the sphere.
At the ringmaster’s final yell, the cyclists launched themselves into orbit within the ball, first zooming around the equator in unison, then diverging until they spun like electrons, their paths crossing and recrossing each other with the narrowest of misses each trip around. Many in the audience cringed; some hid their eyes; most could not look away. Only perfect timing kept the brave cyclists from smashing into each other.
Jesus had that kind of timing (John 7:6). As his death approached, He sped through cycles of confrontation and withdrawal that polarized those who heard Him. His focus was unfaltering, each action and word helping to bring about the inevitable end for which He had come to this world. He would die for our redemption, but only at the perfect moment. God’s plan happened on God’s timetable, and could not be hastened nor delayed by man.
Prayer Suggestion: Jesus, help me to approach life with the same focus with which You faced Your death.
